Well, I don't know about you, but this photo tells me that there really isn't any training program to get you "land" a Chinook on top of an aging dwelling to do a rescue. It is quite obvious that the pilot did not yet have breakfast. Either that or they have guts made of wrought iron.
Being the most important piece of "US Property", you could never be paid well enough or thanked enough for your service. You do your 20 years, get out and get a pension of 50% of what you were paid before you left and mediocre medical benefits. Meanwhile, the politician representing your hometown does four or six years, doesn't get voted for again and receives 100% of what they made (depending on where they are from) and outstanding medical benefits for the rest of their years.
